Most people think that if a dog is lying down and showing its stomach, it means obedience and infinite trust to the owners. But showing its belly may not necessarily mean obedience. One of the reasons for a dog to show its belly is to have a 'time out', which is a 'Calming signal' commonly used by dogs to rest and take a breath. A dog who lie down to rest after playful exercise might be annoyed by us who misunderstood the signal and continue to rub its belly.
